Rules -> Healing?
In Germany, Claudia Löwen, a trauma counselor partnering with First Aid for the Soul, is making a remarkable difference in the lives of refugees who have experienced trauma. Claudia's journey underscores the power of consistency and structure in helping these children thrive.
Claudia and her co-facilitator established clear rules and a code of conduct for their Lala’s Journey group. This provides a safe environment where these girls could flourish. As a group, the girls created a list of rules they thought should be followed, and decided on what would happen if they weren’t. Learning how to follow social guidelines and to even help set those guidelines aids in healing and shows that healing is taking place. As Claudia explains, "You would see a girl asking politely to borrow a pencil from her neighbor where before class you had seen those two girls physically beating on each other."
While Claudia remains dedicated to her trauma counseling work, she's also volunteered to train facilitators to lead Lala's Journey groups, recognizing the importance of equipping more individuals to support children. Her words resonate: "This puts the trauma training into the hands of people who may never have the time or energy to become professional counselors. And we will never have enough professional trauma counselors to deal with this crisis." Claudia Löwen journey serves as a powerful reminder that consistent, healthy efforts can create a significant impact in the lives of trauma-affected children, reminding us of our potential to make a positive difference by offering a safe and nurturing environment for their healing and growth.
