Support kids on their journey

Start a Lala’s Journey kids group.

Lala’s Journey is a children’s book and five-week program. Community members are trained to provide “first aid for the soul” for the kids in their lives.

Children learn and practice trauma stabilizing skills such as:

  • Discovering the things that make them resilient.

  • Practicing grounding techniques.

  • Learning how to take the next step after a challenging situation.

  • Trusting and growing in relationship with others.

“[This] puts trauma training into the hands of people who may never have the time or energy to become professional counselors.

And we will never have enough professional trauma counselors to deal with this crisis.”

— Claudia Löwen, trauma counselor

“That’s MY story!”

Kids who participate in Lala’s Journey activities get to practice what they learn in each of the chapters. Girls and boys connect with Lala’s experiences. Just a few minutes into the first chapter, one girl protested: “Hey, that’s my story!” She was touched to find out that so many others had also had her experience of the refugee journey, that there was a book about it.

Finding out that she was not alone and others shared her experiences was helpful in her healing process. While Lala’s story is about a girl going through the refugee journey, kids from all backgrounds identify with her and journey with her, learning something new.
